The ZED Console
A small group of us developed and built this prototype way back in 2016. Zed was a new kind of interactive museum exhibit that tied the content directly into the local school systems. The name Zed stands for Generation Z Education; generation-Z being the first generation of kids that spent their entire life’s never knowing what it was like not to have hand-held digital devices and social media. In fact, Zed was built from the ground up as a brand new approach to combat not only the short attention span of Gen Z, but also to solve some of the major problems facing modern museums. It combined cool digital technology, self-directed learning, gamification, and remotely updatable content. Zed is built for the museum environment to provide a robust, high-tech, and reasonably priced option that would drive repeat visitors back to the museum again and again. But its connection with the schools is what really makes it unique.
After spending a lot of time talking to STEM educators, museum experts, and lots of young people on the subject of STEM education. We even hosted a 3 day design-thinking workshop in a local 6th grad classroom to try to find out what would spark an interest with younger generations. Check out the Video below.
Stories in the Sky
Stories in the Sky is the first program created for our Zed console. It teaches kids about the science and mythology of stars and constellations. But what's really revolutionary about this system is its new approach to S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education). The Zed Digital Makerspace system has the ability reach a vast number of kids in all types of communities, empower them, and inspire them to learn more about a multitude of S.T.E.M. subjects, like electricity, climate change, space, or thermal energy. How? By strengthening the connection between local schools and science museums. Stories in the Sky premiered at Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta. Check out the video below.
